African-led solutions for a resilient future
ACFIR was established in 2019 with a clear purpose: to advance inclusive resilience through African-led solutions that connect people, communities and systems. Our work brings together humanitarian action, sustainable development, climate resilience and governance, recognising that these challenges are deeply connected.
Why an integrated approach matters
A family’s wellbeing depends on more than one service. Opportunities, essential services, community networks and effective institutions all shape the ability to respond to change. Addressing one challenge in isolation can leave other barriers untouched. ACFIR’s approach connects immediate needs with the conditions that support lasting resilience.
Grounded in local realities
We place local knowledge, priorities and ownership at the centre of our work. Communities bring experience and practical insights that should shape the design of solutions. Meaningful participation by women, youth and vulnerable populations is essential to ensuring that resilience is inclusive.
People, communities and systems
Our framework brings together three connected priorities: resilient people, resilient communities and resilient systems. Through research, partnerships, programmes and policy engagement, we seek to strengthen these foundations together.
ACFIR’s regional presence spans Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Djibouti. Working closely with national and local partners creates opportunities to connect experience across different contexts while staying grounded in country and community priorities.
A shared invitation
We welcome conversations with organisations, researchers and partners who share an interest in inclusive resilience. Lasting change begins with shared understanding and grows through collaboration, learning and local ownership.
